Wonderful Tauplitzalm, I already miss you

I spent a wonderful 2 days at Tauplitzalm and its surroundings in the neighboring country. I dare say this trip has been the one closest to my heart so far.

Tauplitz is a former municipality in Styria, Austria, located in the Liezen district. Since the municipal structural reform in Styria in 2015, it has been part of the municipality of Bad Mitterndorf. It's a 5-hour journey from Budapest, so it's worth traveling for several days. You won't be short of sights to see!

I didn't arrive too early, as check-in at the accommodation was only possible in the afternoon. I was already sure it would be a fantastic weekend when I saw the accommodation. By the way, the accommodation was in Bad Mitterndorf, specifically at Appartementhaus Theresia. The owner was extremely kind and helpful, so the payment and room allocation went smoothly.

Alright, let's dive right in then!

The hike took place in the fall, and knowing it would get dark early, we started from the accommodation at 6 a.m. To reach Tauplitzalm, you have to take a toll road, but the view at the top makes it worth every penny. At such an early hour, there was still no one there, but there's an automated machine where you can exchange euros for a token to lift the barrier. From there, you need to ascend a beautiful mountain road to reach the parking lot, where as far as I could see, camping overnight is also possible.

Afterward, the full-day hike began.

As usual, I relied on the AllTrails app: Hochweiß (2158m) & Plankermira (2178m). The hike is indeed challenging, so I mainly recommend it to those who are not beginners. Nevertheless, it's worth even just starting the hike or lingering at the 6 lakes, as the place offers breathtaking views.
